“It was just a huge wave of euphoria,” says Grace Mausser, the co-chair of New York City’s chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America. On Tuesday night, Mausser was at the Harlem watch party for Darializa Avila Chevalier at Sofrito when the TVs showed that the handpicked DSA candidate had won her House primary. The same thing happened across the city for candidates endorsed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani: In Queens, Claire Valdez won; in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, DSA fellow traveler Brad Lander beat incumbent Congressman Dan Goldman. Voters, Mamdani told MS Now the next day, were sick of the “status-quo politics.”
