The 12 Stupidest Moments From Trump’s Davos Speech

President Trump has been ramping up his Greenland threats in recent days, so everyone was hoping his keynote speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Wednesday would provide some assurance that he wasn’t about to tear apart the NATO alliance or invade the Arctic island.

Thankfully, Trump did say that he “won’t use force” to take Greenland. But there were plenty of other concerning — and concerningly dumb — moments in the speech. The president continued to insist that the U.S. must own Greenland and demanded immediate negotiations, vaguely threatening that if other nations stand in the way, “we will remember.”

The other major theme was that basically everyone — Greenland, NATO, Canada, Switzerland, ICE-besieged Minneapolis — owes everything to Trump, so they should stop acting like lousy ingrates. And, of course, there was plenty of the usual Trump inanity: He repeatedly called Greenland “Iceland,” railed against windmills, and portrayed Joe Biden as history’s greatest monster.

Here’s what you missed.

Trump said using military force is likely the only way the U.S. will get Greenland — but he’s not taking that route.

“We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force where we would be, frankly, unstoppable. But I won’t do that,” he said.

“That’s probably the biggest statement I made, because people thought I would use force, but I don’t have to use force; I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force,” he said.

Trump: "We never ask for anything, and we never got anything. We probably won't get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force, where we would be frankly unstoppable, but I won't do that…I won't use force. All the U.S. is asking for is a place called… pic.twitter.com/PCTipqgHpo
