Newcastle United in strong Anthony Gordon position after 'move quickly' Liverpool transfer update
With little over a month to go in the summer market - one that has proved frustrating for Newcastle United - it appears conversations regarding a potential exit for Anthony Gordon will, begrudgingly, continue in the final stages of the transfer window.
Moments after the Magpies recorded a hard-fought 4-1 win in stifling conditions out in Japan and Eddie Howe told reporters he 'hoped' progress was being made in terms of incomings, reports on Merseyside were strongly suggesting Liverpool's interest in Gordon remains.
The Liverpool Echo report a swoop for the England international could 'move quickly', as the Reds prepare to back new boss Arne Slot with significant investment and the promise of fresh talent through the door by late August. It is pointed out Newcastle were in talks to let Gordon go this time last month, when profit and sustainability rules [PSR] caused a late-June panic in which important first-team stars suddenly - and reluctantly - became available for the right price.
