Letters: Did some people respond to Hurricane Ida like they did to the pandemic?

1 0 0

Reading about Hurricane Ida’s blasting ashore, I wondered:

Were there people in Ida’s projected path who didn’t prepare because they thought Ida was a hoax perpetrated by meteorologists and other scientists with political motives for warning/scaring people?

Did someone say, “I remember when they said a hurricane was headed straight for Key Largo, but it came in at Fort Lauderdale, so those ‘scientists’ don’t know what they’re talking about”?

Were there people who refused to hunker down when Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards asked them to, because they felt he was curtailing their freedom?

Did some say the media was just whipping the population into a frenzy to cause chaos and then a government overthrow?

I can’t help but wonder because I’ve seen this sort of thing happen before.

— Carol Richart, Downers Grove

The Rev. Matt Fitzgerald’s letter (“End the air show,” Aug. 30), was almost too absurd to warrant a response; however, I do not wish his to be the only voice heard regarding the Blue Angels’ outstanding performance last weekend.

With all due sympathy and respect to the reverend’s grieving........
