Why local kids are ditching screens for the peace of a fishing line

Without fail, when I go for a walk in our local area, whether it be around Lake Tuggeranong or the Gordon pond or down on the river at Pine Island, I see kids, mostly boys, fishing.

Golden hour on the lake

There is not a more beautiful sight than seeing some young kids, and very often teenagers, throwing in a line on the lake around golden hour.

The sun is sparkling on the water. The young fishers are silhouetted against the setting sun. Have I mentioned before I love getting Norman Rockwell-style feels? This is them all over.

Even better is when, usually, the kids' dad is there, lending a hand, no doubt telling some tales of the big ones that got away from him.

It's lovely to see parent and child engaged in the peaceful moment of a shared past-time.

There's a lot of angst expressed around kids spending too much time on screens, but I can attest there also seems to be a lot of young people enjoying the great outdoors, thanks to this booming interest in fishing.
