Richmond's "fab four" have been broken up. Only Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin are left standing, although Tom Lynch could prove to be a pretty handy "fifth Beatle".

Still, without Alex Rance for the season and Jack Riewoldt for a month, not to mention Dylan Grimes, who is suspended this week, the attention on those remaining is heightened.

In particular it is Martin whose influence in Saturday's game against Greater Western Sydney will be squarely under the microscope.

Two years ago, 2017, was the season of Martin. The game's biggest-name free agent that year, he seemingly embraced the pressure to produce a season that all-time great Leigh Matthews declared might have been the greatest campaign played by an individual footballer.

Martin won the Brownlow Medal, the Norm Smith Medal and reached iconic status as a Richmond premiership hero.

He was still an All-Australian last year, and also polled 19 Brownlow votes, but his air of invincibility gradually wore off. Unquestionably he remained elite, but he couldn't scale 2017's heights.

Two rounds into 2019, critics are chipping away at his status. Martin........
