The killers of public discourse are angry agitators

Angry agitators are killing off sensible debate. They're happy with that as it leaves more of the stage for them. More limelight under which they can glow. It leaves less space for the rest of us to hear and share other opinions. Think of it this way. In the moth to a flame analogy they're not the moth. They're the flame.

They are an angry lot. In the past, if someone did or said something that caused you a grievance you would likely shrug it off as a part of the give and take or rough and tumble of an active life. The rich tapestry of life. Legal action was reserved for the more serious infractions. Angry activists have a different view. They use the law as a weapon. Sadly many are being aided by some in the legal profession who are only too happy to take up a cause. They offer an arrangement where if you don't win you don't pay. So whilst playing the victim, they choose their own victim and pursue them through the courts. Unless you're cashed up, you might choose to settle rather than run up exorbitant legal costs. Voila, the angry activist wins.

Greta Thunberg is a classic example of the modern day angry agitator. There stood a school aged child with what appeared to be a well-rehearsed, angry face who had not the slightest embarrassment, doubt or compunction in angrily sneering to billions of unidentified second persons "how dare you". Who she thought she was not many are certain. One has to think an awful lot of oneself to believe you are the one to issue such a global exhortation. One might say how dare she. Nobody appointed her. Like a lot of angry activists, they self-appoint.

Thunberg moved on. Perhaps because constant publicity about the volume of CO2-emissions that spewed from her media performances complaining about, you guessed it, CO2 emissions made her look somewhat ridiculous. Having outworn her welcome as a global warming doomsayer she has moved on to other things.

Israel and Palestine has been her latest issue. She has boarded several flotillas heading to Gaza. Flotilla doesn't mean Armada. In reality it's just a motley collection of boats. Of course they said they took aid. To call it aid was monstrous. It was symbolic at best. Think the MCG full of hungry people and arrive with a snag or two. Did they raise truck loads of money and........
