One of the most endearing characteristics of “Norte Americanos” is that, as a broad-spectrum culture, they are truly very nice people. Though Churchill was aiming his comment directly toward the United States of America, in my mind, it is just as valid in respect to our neighbors to the north.
From the very beginning of these two countries, doing the right thing has been fundamental in surviving and thriving. And Canada and the United States have been very good at both, much to the benefit of the whole world.
However, there is such a thing as being too nice. Both the citizens of the United States of America and Canada have allowed their citizens to take beatings from being too nice. Being too nice and too tolerant too often results in being taken advantaged of by the “lowlifes” in our society. These less than ethical people often end up as street criminals, criminals clothed as government officials,........
