As a 'Gen Xer', one of the major political songs of my boyhood was a 1980 parody hit by the title of 'Bomb Iran', made in response to the 1979 taking of the US embassy in Tehran. Current events suggest it was a timely topic.

It was a plea for the then-sitting president to wage war on the victorious Iranian Supreme Leader at that time for taking American State Department employees hostage.

Juxtaposed with the memory is a recent update from the current commander-in-chief. Ironically, his major offensive literally does what recording artist Vince Vance hoped a past president would decades ago.

I'm not recalling this song out of frivolity.

It reflected popular 'buy-in' from a broad number of citizens who felt retaliation was richly deserved. I can't help but wonder whether people today will cheer the largest US air and sea campaign since 'Operation Desert Storm' started in 1990?

Especially with projected casualties abroad... and home. 'Lest we forget, cells of organized terror operatives and 'lone wolves' in this country will activate in revenge for the Ayotollah's death and widespread destruction of Iran's war fighting capability.

As of this posting, we've already had one 'lone wolf' terror attack in Austin, Texas. Observers feel more are on the way.

The public must be willing to withstand homefront threats and losses. The success of this war depends upon it.

We will see if such willingness is as strong now as it was when Vince Vance wrote his 'Bomb Iran' song.

Incidentally, it drew heavily from the 1965 hit record, 'Barbara Ann', performed by the Beach Boys.
