Robin Heydon: Why a workplace parking levy is the best way to cut rush hour traffic in Cambridge

It has been stated that we need to reduce the number of people driving along the roads of Cambridge at rush hour.

If we could achieve that, then we could have more frequent buses more punctually, more space for people walking and cycling, and safer streets for everybody. The only dispute appears to be how to make that happen.

One idea on the table is a workplace parking levy. This has been tried in Nottingham, successfully.

Nottingham Trent University introduced its workplace parking levy by passing the costs directly to their employees who decided that perhaps taking public transport or cycling or walking was suddenly better.
