Mayor can't guarantee running buses for busway 'that no-one wants'
CambridgeshireLive readers have responded after the Mayor stated he could not guarantee support for running bus routes along the Cambourne to Cambridge (C2C) Busway if it is built. A public inquiry is currently underway into the Greater Cambridge Partnership's plans for a guided busway linking Cambourne and Cambridge via Bourn Airfield, complete with a walking and cycling path and a travel hub at Scotland Farm.
Paul Bristow addressed the project's public inquiry on Tuesday (September 30), stating that an assumption had been made about the level of bus services on the busway, which he said could not be guaranteed.
He explained that under bus franchising he would have to consider several factors before agreeing to a new route, including safety and the impact on existing bus services. The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) has put together plans to build the new busway.
The proposed scheme includes building a new guided busway, accompanied by a path for pedestrians and cyclists, and a travel hub at Scotland Farm in Dry Drayton. The busway route is set to connect Cambourne and Cambridge, via the new Bourn Airfield development, Hardwick, Coton, and the West Cambridge site.
