Council fixes 55,000 potholes but 'the roads in and around Cambridge are a disgrace'

More than 55,000 potholes have been repaired annually in Cambridgeshire over the past five years, a new report reveals. Cambridgeshire County Council has complied with a Department for Transport (DfT) request that local highway authorities produce transparency reports on maintenance work to secure additional funding. Cambridegshire Live readers are sceptical that this will solve the issue.

To qualify for a share of the £500 million extra maintenance funding from the government for 2025-26, authorities must publish these reports by the end of June 2025, demonstrating adherence to best practice criteria.

These reports are expected to include comparisons of maintenance spending over five years, network condition statistics, estimates of pothole repairs, and details of planned maintenance work.
