Cambridge East station plan moves forward but locals say it's the 'wrong place'

Cambridgeshire Live readers have been discussing the news that the city could get another railway station. It comes as Cambridge South’s opening has been delayed until June 2026.

East West Railway (EWR Co) has proposed a new station to improve travel across the eastern city, pending third-party funding. Design funding has been approved for a station near the soon-to-be-decommissioned Cambridge Airport.

A spokesperson said: "The station would help stimulate economic growth in the area and unlock a new connection to the wider region via a significantly upgraded Newmarket Line, with regional links to Felixstowe and Ipswich."

East West Rail also plans a new eastern entrance at Cambridge Station, which would "deliver a significantly better experience for passengers and better connect with the Clifton Road area and other amenities". This would include new facilities, a gate........
