Young, broke and alone: the struggles of twentysomething life in Cambridge

Like many others in their twenties, I finished university and started my first job with nothing but a degree and almost £50,000 of debt.

I bagged my first job in Cambridge and moved from London where I’d been a student.

When I first moved here, I really liked the city. I thought the buildings were beautiful, the streets were charming and the River Cam was perfect for a stroll.

But just over six months into my time here, I’ve realised Cambridge can be a really difficult place for young people to live.

It’s expensive

Yes it’s not quite London, but the prices really aren’t far off.

Moving away from the capital, I was looking forward to buying a pint that was less than a fiver.

But actually, when I got here I realised that it isn't cheap to go out for a few drinks in Cambridge.
