Bell: City could pitch arena plan to Flames — quickly

3 14 350

A new $600-million NHL arena for Calgary is no longer on ice. Plays are being made.

Very high-level talks between the Flames and the city continue.

The city is finished with looking at whether a new arena in Vic Park would be a good thing.

“We’ve done our data gathering phase,” says Michael Brown.

This Brown guy is on a city council committee dealing with the new arena file. He is also running the show in the East Village where there’s all kinds of construction.

“Now it’s time to go back to council and get their permission to actually develop a proposal and put it in front of Calgary Sports and Entertainment.”

That’s the Flames.

When could they have something for the Flames owners?

That’s up to city council. They could start the wheels rolling Monday.

And then …

“If they approve it, it could be quite quick to pull that together,” says Brown.

“We just need to make some decisions as a community so we can get on with things.”

This isn’t inside source stuff. But some folks who like to play the odds think Calgarians will........
