Breakenridge: Alberta has an imbalanced fixation with equalization

There won’t be a sequel to the Alberta equalization referendum on this fall’s ballot, but the current premier seems no less fixated on the issue than her predecessor.

Perhaps Premier Danielle Smith can claim a mandate to push for change on this issue, even if it was Jason Kenney’s referendum. It’s hard for any Alberta premier to go wrong by railing against equalization.

Furthermore, this premier has been on a roll lately in terms of post-Trudeau policy breakthroughs, so why not give this one a go?
