Bell: Separatists on the ropes, no doubt they'll blame Danielle Smith

The poll numbers sting. The numbers should sting, if you are for Alberta splitting from Canada.

It appears, in this early snapshot in time, the Alberta separatists are spinning their wheels.

They are not gaining ground. In fact, they may be heading in reverse.

In the Postmedia-Leger poll, it is 68 per cent to 24 per cent in favour of remaining in Canada rather than going down the road to a Yes or No vote on Alberta independence.

In case you needed more convincing something is happening here, a poll by Ipsos is even uglier. It is 72 per cent to 19 per cent for Alberta remaining in Canada.

What the heck is going on?

The independence supporters should look in the mirror.

Cory Morgan, who has fought for Alberta independence as long as I remember anybody fighting for Alberta independence, tosses out a truth-hurts question after the nasty polls hit the street.

“I wonder what the independence support numbers would be if the primary group representing the independence movement actually decided to start campaigning on the issue.”

Aren’t they campaigning?
