Bell: 'Civil war' — Jason Kenney paints a doomsday picture of an independent Alberta

The horror! The horror!

Before the night is over, one side will paint a horrifying picture of an independent Alberta and the other side will speak of shameless fear mongering.

The man was ready. He had what he believed was his ace in the hole. He was just waiting for the chance to use it.

The Alberta separatists bellowed out the loudest cheers in the packed-to-the-rafters Calgary theatre Monday night.

The sold-out crowd was witnessing a debate on whether Alberta should be in or out of Canada, with former Alberta premier Jason Kenney facing off against the distinguished lawyer Keith Wilson.

Kenney for Canada. Wilson for an independent Alberta.

Kenney tells the people Alberta is winning many fights and should stay in Canada.

He mentions the deal between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, an understanding Smith believes will lead to a pipeline to the West Coast.

Separatists in the crowd groan.

Kenney challenges them.

He asks them what they want? To leave Canada.

Do they want Alberta to roll out a unilateral declaration of independence from Canada?

Kenney clearly is not putting up with that kind of thinking.

He pulls out his high card. He plays the Ace of Fear.

Fear is a great motivator. Ask Prime Minister........
