Talk about two different worlds colliding.
On Monday, in one part of Edmonton, supporters of Alberta independence are enjoying the moment.
They are doing a victory lap. It appears they have cleared the first hurdle in what promises to be a long, uphill battle.
By their count, they scored way more than enough signatures on a petition to give Albertans the chance to vote on whether or not Alberta should leave Canada.
They brought more than 300,000 signatures of Albertans to Alberta election officials who will now look them over.

In another part of Edmonton, the mood is quite the opposite.
NDP leader Naheed Nenshi says the Alberta separatist petition with all those signatures should be given the heave-ho.
It should be squashed like a bug.
He questions the signatures. He is not alone. Others in the pro-Canada agree with Nenshi.
For the past few days, the social media world, where political types hang out, has been going wild with talk of the separatist Republican Party of Alberta providing another separatist group with the massive Alberta........
