Braid: City boss Duckworth deflects blame but shields city employees from mental stress

Shortly before Calgary’s devastating pipeline report became public last week, chief administrator David Duckworth took a bold step.

He offered mental health support to city employees.

The top boss apparently thought their psyches would be shattered by sharp criticism of the city’s failure to prevent water main ruptures on the Bearspaw South feeder line.

“As you read the report, you may have questions,” Duckworth said to all staff in an email sent at 8:33 a.m. last Wednesday.
