Despite tepid oil prices, slowing population growth and fewer housing starts, Calgary’s economy is poised to gain more momentum in 2026.
A new report by the Conference Board of Canada says the city’s economy will grow by more than two per cent this year, up slightly from 2025 levels, although it points out there are some headwinds on the horizon.
“It’s going to be pressured, just like everywhere else,” board economist Robin Wiebe said in an interview.
“We are talking about solid but unspectacular growth, and it’s going to be decent in the national context, because we are forecasting Calgary to have the fastest growth of any city.”
