Nelson: Smith must ditch pension plan before it brings her down
It was already on life support. So, please, pull the plug and put the idea of an Alberta pension plan out of its misery.
Premier Danielle Smith’s long-standing dalliance with dropping the Canada Pension Plan as the preferred retirement pot for employed Albertans was always a hard sell. After all, political affiliation only stretches so far when it comes to people’s own financial security.
The recent shock dismissal of head honchos running another provincial pot of pension funds has done little to ensure an APP would be a better choice than the CPP for individuals’ hard-earned retirement contributions.
