Spike in oil prices opens mixed bag for Argentina

The spike in oil prices caused by the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran could fuel inflation in Argentina and, at the same time, positively impact the country’s foreign accounts, according to analysts.

This week, Brent crude’s price surpassed US$100 a barrel for the first time in nearly two years, although on Monday it went down to around US$80 after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the “war is very complete, pretty much.”

Pablo Repetto, head of research at broker Aurum Valores, said that the shock “in the medium and long term is positive for Argentina” because the country now has the possibility of exporting from a less conflictive place in geopolitical........
