As we start 2026, I want to wish Bucks Free Press readers a Happy New Year – I hope 2026 is a good year for you, writes Steven Broadbent leader of Buckinghamshire Council.

I would also like to share how Buckinghamshire Council is continuing to deliver for residents despite growing financial challenges from central government.

This week, the council’s Cabinet has agreed our updated Medium Term Financial Plan, proposals which set out in detail how we’ll manage the council’s finances over the coming years. Once again, our budget proposals meet the legal requirement of balancing our books, but it’s clear this is becoming even more challenging.
