Who is the creator of opposition chaos at your club?

In our game these days, all the plaudits seem to go to the onballers, even more than the gun
forwards.

But there’s another group of playersbeginning to emerge as some of the most important in footy. They’re the unsung heroes otherwise known as half-back flankers.

I’m not just talking any type of defender, but the ones who can carry and create, either with
blistering speed, precise kicking or a mix of both. With structures and zones now so incredibly organised these guys can provide the key to unlocking an opposition’s defence.

They create chaos and confusion ahead of them by denying their opponents the chance to set up in a
way they’re so well-trained. Despite being relatively unheralded, these defenders have proved crucial in September over the years.

At Collingwood in 2010 it was Heath Shaw, Ben Johnson and Heritier Lumumba or ‘Harry O’ as Magpies fans knew him back then. More recently, we saw Jason Johannisen claim a rare accolade for a dashing defender with the North Smith Medal in 2016, before Bachar Houli almost did the same for........
