Melbourne's emerging mids aren't keeping up with the Joneses

It's interesting to note where the arrows are aimed when a team loses their first three games of the season.

Melbourne's 0-3 start to the season has led to predictable questions being raised about the future of the oldest member of the line-up, Nathan Jones.

Perhaps doubts arose when he dropped a mark he should have taken during a vital part of the round one match against Port Adelaide.

But if any Melbourne supporter thinks the co-captain is the cause of the team's poor start to the season they are misguided.

Jones' form has been relatively strong, his role switching away from the engine room to the increasingly important wing where his leadership and running ability can be used to effect. Fewer disposals in a position that doesn't require such big numbers to be fulfilled.
