A dating app for teenagers. What could go wrong?

Dubbed by some as “Tinder for Teens”, Yubo is a free, location-based app for finding, swiping, chatting, and video streaming.

According to its listing on the app store, Yubo is a platform for making “friends”, with an age rating of 17 . But Yobu appears to have about as much interest in verifying user’s age and intentions as the NSA has in privacy.

It took me about three minutes to set up a fake – and unverified – profile on Yubo. I was then presented with images of teens who seemed to have interests other than getting to know my wit and charming personality.

Melbourne mother Dora* found out about Yubo when she discovered her 15-year-old daughter was contacted via the app by a 17-year-old boy whose main talent seemed to be psychologically manipulating young women.

“I want parents to know that there is no innocence in our teens online,” the mother says.

After the boy engaged in rapid-fire small talk with her daughter about her day at school, he asked her to send a photo of herself. She did, and he didn’t respond for hours,........
