The federal election campaign is a warning to over-sharing parents

“[Y]our social media footprint will follow you.”

That was the warning federal Labor candidate for the seat of Melbourne Luke Creasey gave in a statement after he withdrew from the race following revelations about past inappropriate social media posts.

He’s not the only one. Numerous candidates from the Liberal, Labor, One Nation and Greens parties have withdrawn due to dumb things they did online.

It’s yet another cautionary tale for parents to warn their children about the dangers of ill-considered social media posts. But are parents taking their own advice and exercising appropriate levels of caution with their own post about their children?

Have we considered that the social media footprint that we as parents create for our children will follow them for the rest of their lives as well?

While our kids might never want to go into politics, the content we post about them could affect their future job........
