If anyone needs motivation, it's a gig worker

If there's one section of the labour force I consistently tip, it's those employed by the gig economy. Whether it's the Uber Eats driver bringing me food or the Airtasker repairman fixing my home, they almost always merit the extra boost. They battle the rain, the guard dogs and the traffic. They act with urgency and little pay, inconveniencing themselves to convenience us. If anyone deserves a post-performance gratuity, surely it's them.

And if anyone deserves the much-needed motivation, again, surely it's them. Because unlike the rest of the workforce, who have managers to instigate motivation whenever they're feeling lazy or bored, gig workers perform their jobs without a manager to lift their spirits. There's no one around to offer praise or initiate collaboration; no one to make greater use of their interests and talents.
