How the weather can ruin your business

There wouldn’t be many entrepreneurial risks as perilous as those dependent on the weather. Surely owners of an ice cream parlour are nervous in the winter while owners of a shop selling skis are nervous in the summer. But they’ve likely planned for such cyclical fluctuations. Of more concern, especially in an era of climate change, is the onset of unpredictable weather.

You only have to look at the distressing story of the emotional farmer this week who described the impact the drought was having on his business. “We’re dying out here,” he stressed. “We're tough people but we're at breaking point.”
