Warne saw writing on the wall for forgotten Marsh brother

Just last October, with the stench of Sandpapergate still hovering, Mitch Marsh became vice-captain of the national Test and T20 teams, was Australia's first-choice all-rounder and had seemingly settled in for the long run.

On Monday, when Cricket Australia announced the 20 recipients of the organisation's lucrative 2019/2020 central contracts and 15-man squad for this month's World Cup in England, Marsh's name was glaringly absent.

It did appear in the Australia A squad for its eight-game campaign in England before the Ashes, which begins at Edgbaston on August 1, but the 27-year-old's fall from grace has been swift, brutal and in line with recent ruthlessness from selectors towards underperforming all-rounders (on reflection Shane Watson should consider himself lucky for all those chances).
