The Muslim Brotherhood (Arabic: Jamāʿat al-Ikhwān al-Muslimīn) is a transnational Sunni Islamist organization and arguably the world’s oldest and most influential contemporary Islamist movement. Founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna, it advocates for the implementation of Sharia law as a comprehensive guide for all aspects of life, with the ultimate goal of establishing a state ruled by Islamic law.

Paradoxically the organization is banned in six Muslim countries – Egypt, Saudi Arabia United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain and Kazakhstan. The Brotherhood were responsible for the assassination of President of Sadat of Israel who hade made peace with Israel. Morsi, a Brotherhood leader became President but was removed in a military coup and thereafter the organization was banned.
