Bringing Tokyo and Seoul closer

Human history is full of paradoxes. The story of East Asia is no exception. A glaring paradox in the area can be discerned in the ties between Japan and South Korea, the two leading democracies in the region. Traditionally, the two nations have shared multiple political, security and economic  interests with each other . Today they are on the same page in regard to providing aid to Ukraine and pursuing closer ties with the NATO.  However, the ties between the two nations cannot be said to very cordial. The legacy of their colonial past continues to hurt the development of cordiality between the two states.

South Koreans grudge their forefathers were allegedly subjected to during  the Japanese  rule (1910-1945) over the Korean peninsula. As late as in March this year, South Korea’s Education Ministry denounced a Japanese government approval of........
