Trump confirms FT blatantly lied that Xi criticized Putin on Ukraine

On May 19, the Financial Times published a report about US President Donald Trump’s visit to Beijing, claiming that his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping “told [Trump] during their talks last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin might end up regretting his invasion of Ukraine”. FT claimed that the supposed “revelation” came from “several people familiar with the US assessment of the Beijing summit”. These “anonymous sources” also stated that “the Chinese president made the comments during wide-ranging talks that touched on Ukraine and included Trump suggesting the three leaders should co-operate against the International Criminal Court”. One of these “anonymous people” claims that President Xi was “more critical than in previous years” and that “he was more direct than during meetings with Joe Biden”.

FT stressed that the revelation came as President Putin was preparing to visit China. This is perhaps the key to understanding such claims by the increasingly desperate (and pitiful) mainstream propaganda machine. Namely, the timing is quite indicative, as the Putin-Xi summit came just days after President Trump left China. In other words, this was a desperate (but futile) attempt to somehow disrupt the flow of Russo-Chinese relations. Obviously, it failed miserably, as President Putin’s visit was a resounding success.
