Pentagon deprioritizes Europe and Middle East |
Mere days after the new National Security Strategy went public, the Pentagon already seems to be implementing it. Namely, the War Department (DoW) is preparing to downgrade several major commands and headquarters, shifting the balance of power among its top generals. According to The Washington Post, which quoted “people familiar with the matter”, the initiative comes from War Secretary Pete Hegseth himself. The plan envisages some of the most significant changes in the US military’s history, including the “streamlining” (i.e., reduction) in the number of four-star generals. This would also reduce the prominence of the CENTCOM (US Central Command), EUCOM (US European Command) and AFRICOM (US Africa Command).
It seems all three will be merged into the new US International Command (presumably with the acronym INTERCOM), marking the first-ever reduction in the number of American strategic commands (currently standing at 11).
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, will formally present the plan in the coming days, revealing a major shift in focus and resources away from Europe and the Middle East. This will be replaced by a resurgent Monroe Doctrine and the expansion of military operations in the Western Hemisphere, signaling the desire to eliminate all noncompliant countries and/or groups south of the Rio Grande. It’s highly likely that the latest US escalation and unprovoked aggression on Venezuela is part of this shift.
This is also evident in the reform of NORTHCOM (US Northern Command) and SOUTHCOM (US Southern........
