Aston Villa transfer news live - Rashford hint, Tielemans targeted, Disasi decision

Another big summer awaits at Aston Villa.

This past weekend, with the victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, the club confirmed that they'd be playing in Europe for a third straight campaign next season - the question now is, which competition will that be?

Champions League football would open up more possibilities when it comes to the summer transfer window, of course; the offer you're able to make to a player when you're establishing yourselves at European football's top table is a much more attractive proposition and can give you the edge over your transfer rivals.

Villa will have to be prudent again in the summer, when once again they must ensure that they remain within the P&S rules or run the risk of being penalised should they be found to be in breach of them.

The transfer rumour mill is already in full swing, so keep updated with the latest names being linked with moves to and away from Villa Park, right here throughout the summer.

Aston Villa have announced that promising youngster Aidan Borland has signed a new contract with the club.

The 18-year-old joined Villa from Celtic in August 2023 and signed his first professional deal in April of last year.

He established himself in the Under-21 side as a 16-year-old and made his first-team debut against Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Cup in September.

Last week, he captained Villa to the FA Youth Cup title after Jimmy Shan’s side beat Man City Under-18s 2-1 in front of over 25,000 fans at Villa Park.

Norwich City are in talks with Aston Villa over extending Lewis Dobbin’s loan.

The 22-year-old, who joined Villa from Everton for £10m last summer, spent the first half of the season on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

When that stint didn’t work out, he was sent to Carrow Road in January.

Dobbin found the net in a 5-1 win over Swansea City at the end of January and scored again in a 4-2 victory over Stoke City.

Former Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos could be on the move again this summer - just months after leaving Villa for Turkey.

Centre half Carlos arrived at Villa in the summer of 2022, from Sevilla, and cost the club - then under the tutelage of Steven Gerrard - around £26m. The Brazilian, though, fell out of favour under Unai Emery over time and was granted a move in the January transfer window.

He joined Fenerbahce, under Jose Mourinho, and signed a three and a half year deal in a move which banked Villa - who were signing Axel Disasi on loan by way of a replacement - around £8.5m, but he picked up an injury in his second match and only returned to action at the end of last month.

Marcus Rashford’s future could become a whole lot clearer in the next fortnight.

On loan at Aston Villa, Rashford’s season could well have already finished after he suffered a hamstring injury last month.

He has since missed Villa’s last three games - against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and the subsequent 1-0 victories over Fulham and Bournemouth.

Both of those critical league victories have boosted Villa’s hopes of finishing the season in the top five, which would seal their return to the Champions League.

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans is reportedly a transfer target for Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.

Tielemans has enjoyed a stellar campaign with Villa and is widely considered the club’s player of the season.

Before suffering a muscle problem, he had started all 35 of Villa’s Premier League matches leading up to the weekend trip to Bournemouth.

The Belgian also started all 12 of Villa’s Champions League games this season, registering five goal contributions in the competition.

Aston Villa have reportedly decided against the idea of pursuing a permanent move for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi once his loan spell at the end of the current campaign concludes.

Disasi, 27, joined Villa from the Blues in the January transfer on a loan basis until the end of the season, after Villa had allowed Kosta Nedeljkovic to leave on loan and Diego Carlos was permitted to depart on a permanent basis, making the switch to Fenerbahce in Turkey.

Disasi did enjoy a run in the side shortly after joining and was included in Villa's revised Champions League squad, a squad which fellow new arrivals Andres Garcia and Donyell Malen missed out on, but in more recent times he has been made to settle for substitute appearances.

Unai Emery has preferred to stick with Matty Cash at right-back, while Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres have alternated on the left side of the centre of defence, in partnering routine selection Ezri Konsa. That's meant Disasi's opportunities in any position, have been limited.

Indeed Disasi didn't even make the squad for the recent win over Fulham at Villa Park, and he hasn't played at all since coming on in the late defeat at Manchester City. It appears as though he is destined to return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

Aston Villa decided to allow attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia to leave the club on a temporary basis in the January transfer window - and the Argentine is expected back at Bodymoor Heath this coming summer.

Buendia joined then reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen, under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, in the winter having struggled to break back into the side under Unai Emery after finally recovering from an ACL injury which meant he missed the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign.

Bayer relinquished their title to serial winners Bayern Munich this season but Buendia did help to keep the title race alive for as long as possible when he scored in recent wins over Heidenheim and Augsburg - the former a 90th minute winner in a 1-0 win. In all, with a game to play, Buendia has........
