Seeing what we believe
On Jan. 7, in Minneapolis, Minn., ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed an American citizen named Renee Good, who was part of a protest against ICE activities in the neighborhood near her child's elementary school.
She was in her SUV, diagonally blocking the road, although vehicles could and did get around her. Video footage shows ICE agents yelling for her to get out of the car and using obscenities. Then it shows her wife filming Jonathan Ross, who walked around the SUV, filming it and Good's wife.
The wife hassles him, also using obscenities. Ross is in front and to the far left of the vehicle when Renee tries to leave. She could have bumped him. I have watched all the footage I can find from every angle and can't tell for sure. He remains upright, doesn't drop his phone, and immediately shoots her in the face through her windshield. Then he fires two more shots at point-blank range through the driver's side window. When the car rolls into a pole because she's likely dead, he calls her an obscene name and then motions for another officer to call 911.
These are the facts the best I can report them. There has been a lot said and written in the past week about this incident. For me it has been hard to interface with the situation because it is so awful, and impossible to look away for the same reasons.
In my attempt to process it, I have........
