Watching the tube earlier this week, we saw/heard some folks from out west chanting slogans against data centers in their communities. They were protesting in NIMBY tradition, and came up with this beaut: “People before profits!” Alrighty then.
Before we go much further with data centers, let’s stop to think about that chant. People before profits! People before profits! Sounds like a bumper sticker. But bumper-sticker speech comes from bumper-sticker thought. Without profit, this country would be in a right awful mess.
Privately generated profit makes the world go around, the world go around, of that we can be sure. Pfffth! on being poor. (“Cabaret,” circa 1972.)
