The next president of the United States will inherit a series of crises demanding urgent attention, but there’s one clear and present danger that has not been discussed on the debate stage. Over the past four years, there has been a flood of illegal and unauthorized vapes from China making their way into the U.S. market despite a crackdown on fruity flavors, according to the Associated Press.
Legislators have slammed the FDA for its failure to protect youth from these illegal products, while the CDC reports youth vaping is in decline. What’s troubling is that use of illegal vapes has actually increased 125% since 2021, on the basis of comparing current statistics from the FDA citing current illegal disposable usage at 55.6% to 2021 statistics from a different study citing youth usage at 24.7%.
It’s fueled concern over illegal disposable products made in China. The next administration must tackle this head-on. America’s youth can’t afford four more years of failure.
Youth vaping remains a public health crisis for increasing the risk of teens developing nicotine addiction as these illegal and unauthorized e-cigarettes continue to make their way into middle schools and high schools around the country.
According to a report from the CDC, three brands of disposable vapes make up nearly three-quarters of e-cigarette products used by American youth who vape, including 36.1% who used Elf Bar, 19.9% who used Breeze and 15.8% who used Mr. Fog.
