A lot of the people who supported president-elect Donald Trump spoke about returning to a less “woke” bygone era.
And ... it’s happened.
For many years, the bathrooms at the U.S. Capitol were segregated by race. As a nation, that practice didn’t fully change until it occurred to us (mostly, thanks to the Civil Rights Act of 1964) that these distinctions were based on prejudice and ignorance.
Now, however, segregated bathrooms are back at the Capitol. This time after House Speaker Mike Johnson said that “restrooms, changing rooms, and locker rooms — are reserved for individuals of that biological sex.”
This comes after Democrat Sarah McBride of Delaware became the first openly transgender individual elected to Congress.
