Today’s paper has an AP article about how the U.S. economy grew at a surprisingly strong 3.3% pace last quarter, which the story says points to continued resilience. But some people have problems reconciling a strong economy with high consumer prices.

Last month AP reported that consumer prices had actually dipped for most items except for bread, milk and ground beef.

I believe it. When the price of the bread I like jumped to almost $5 a loaf last year, I decided to give it up. My friend said she did the same with orange juice.

I still say that corporate greed and manufactured inflation are to blame for the high prices. This “greed-flation” will persist until food companies no longer can blame the markups on the Russia-Ukraine War or high gas prices.

Until then, we just have to accept that some of our former food staples now are luxuries.
