Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville on Wednes-day got an earful from fellow Republicans for blocking military promotions over the Defense Department’s abortion policy.
Democrats for months have criticized Tuberville’s block, saying it hurts the military by leaving some leadership voids and potentially affecting troop readiness. A couple of weeks ago I viewed a clip online of Ariz. Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly engaging in a sometimes intense exchange with Tuberville over the standstill. At one point Tuberville told Kelly, “There is nobody more military than me,” as he defended his support of the nation’s armed forces.
Perhaps Tuberville said this because his father served in WWII and, according to the Senator, died at 53 of a heart attack while on active duty.
Still, hearing Tuberville, a former college football coach, say, “There is nobody more military than me,” to Kelly, a former astronaut and Navy combat pilot, was frustrating because he truly believes it.
