BONOKOSKI: When Big Tobacco has a solid case, you know there's trouble

Big Tobacco has been all but gelded, with the final cut coming with legislation demanding its cigarettes soon be sold in the drabbest of plain packaging and with the scariest of health warnings.

Those cancer-riddled tongues? Bigger and bolder.

Cigarettes are already taxed extensively — 70% of the price of each legally-sold pack is federal and provincial taxes and therefore the driver behind the contraband black market — and must be hidden behind panels in every retail outlet to thwart consumer temptation.

Big Tobacco, the leper among commodity manufacturers, cannot sponsor community events, advertise anywhere, offer swag, be sold to minors and has more regulations and restrictions than Carter‘s once had Little Liver Pills.

But not so for the shiny new commodity.

In the Canada Gazette, Part II, Section 152, Health Canada just published its official regulations for that special day in October when the recreational use of cannabis becomes........
