Why playing a minority sport does not make you cool or attractive

So, last weekend I went to Bristol to play in a sport tournament.

Every time anyone said: “What are you doing over the weekend” I would reply that I was taking part in a “sport” tournament.

Although this statement is completely true, the reason I was being so deliberately vague was because the sport being played at the tournament was korfball.

I have played korfball for about a decade and every time I tell someone that fact they ask the question I am sure you are thinking now – “What is korfball?”

For the first few years of playing I would gladly take the time to explain to everyone who asked what korf was.

I would tell them that it is a mixture of basketball, handball and netball where men and women play on the same team.

I would go into great detail to explain how men can only mark men and women can only mark women.

If they remained unconvinced I would explain that it was the only sport with true gender equality as it didn’t matter if one of the female players wasn’t as big or fast as the males – as long as........
