Emmy Nominations Announced: Updating Live

Handmaids, robots, and royals are expected to rule this morning’s Emmy nominees.

Presenters Samira Wiley and Ryan Eggold will reveal what shows officially made the cut on Thursday morning at the Television Academy’s Wolf Theatre.

Beginning at 8:25 a.m. PT, “The Handmaid’s Tale” actress and “The Blacklist” actor named the 2018 nominees in categories spanning acting, directing, writing, and more ahead of the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, which airs on Sept. 17.

Shows predicted to score in the drama category included Hulu’s “Handmaid’s Tale,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” NBC’s “This Is Us,” Netflix’s “The Crown,” FX’s “The Americans,” and Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Meanwhile, comedy series contenders included Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” FX’s “Atlanta,” ABC’s “Black-ish,” NBC’s “Will & Grace,” Netflix’s “GLOW,” and HBO’s “Silicon Valley.”

“Handmaid’s Tale’s” Elisabeth Moss, “The Crown’s” Claire Foy, and “The Americans'” Keri Russell were among the women anticipated to land spots in the drama actress category, with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” Rachel Brosnahan, “Black-ish’s” Tracee Ellis Ross, and “Mom’s” Allison Janney expected for comedy. In the actors’ brackets, “This Is Us” stars Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia, as well as “The Americans'” Matthew Rhys generated buzz for drama, while “Atlanta’s” Donald Glover, “Barry’s” Bill Hader, and “Black-ish’s” Anthony Anderson stood out on the comedy side.
