Nathan Cleary might only be 26, but he’s going to have to be very careful with his body from this point on.

A second significant hamstring injury within 12 months suggests it’s starting to become a problem. I can’t say I’m overly surprised.

At his age, that is when many playmakers and kickers start experiencing difficulties with their groins and hamstrings. It’s only natural given the wear and tear on their bodies.

But with Nathan, there’s another complexity: his insatiable work ethic.

The stories of the champion halfback staying around at training for an extra hour, sometimes two, after his teammates have finished is well known within rugby league circles. He spends most of that time working on his general play and goalkicking.

With that in mind, he’s going to have to manage himself in the coming years to ensure he doesn’t spend too much time on the sidelines.

Whether it’s his organisational skills, his kicking game, goalkicking or try assists, there are so many facets to his game. When he’s not there, it puts plenty of pressure on the other Panthers players.
