The Game of Life, a popular U.S. board game released in 1960, was translated into Japanese eight years later.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of its debut in Japan, and half a century is an outstandingly long life for any board game.

Each player started out with a modest capital and a car to build a fortune by spinning a roulette wheel on the board, which left everything--from employment, investment to health--very much to chance.
