Tragedies, dashcams remind drivers to remain calm

10 2 2

I drove along the Shin-Tomei Expressway the other day, something I hadn't done for quite a while. When I got to the section where the speed limit had been raised from 100 kph to 110 kph earlier this month as an experiment, I gingerly stepped on the gas.

I understand this was the first time that the speed limit on any expressway has been raised above 100 kph since the opening of Japan's first expressway back in 1963.

Driving at 110 kph felt no different from keeping to 100 kph. Rather, my impression was that everyone around me was being a "gracious" driver, not only in the 110-kph section but even where cars were starting to back........
