Mother’s Day a day to ponder if they are bearing too big a burden

When manga artist Fujio Akatsuka was an elementary schoolboy, his single working mother would always come to his bedside early in the morning and whisper into his ear, “Fujio, I’m going to work.”

The eldest son of a fatherless family, Akatsuka felt as if his mother was asking him to take care of family matters.

His mother may also have performed this daily ritual as a “kind of prayer” in which she said to herself, “I will live another hardworking day with these children,” the "gag manga king" writes in his autobiography.

It is apparently a part of his sweet memories of his childhood. Akatsuka still remembered the........
