Elderly drivers need to think about ‘voluntary retirement’

It is not easy to determine when to voluntarily retire. And so it was for Sumitayu Takemoto, a living national treasure who died last month at age 93.

A “ningyo joruri bunraku” (traditional Japanese puppet theater) performer, Takemoto made a comeback at 88 after suffering a stroke, but his voice was no longer what it used to be.

He was greatly missed after he announced his retirement the following year.
